And perhaps something better is in store for me.

So something despairing happened to me recently.
I blamed the troubles on myself because it confused me.
I wanted this dream project so badly.
I already believed it was going well and smoothly.

As a freelancer, losing a project is heartbreaking
sleepless nights and skipped meals are daring
To prepare me and make them proud
I want everything neat and sound

Patiently, I waited 4 hours for nothing
Eventually, they started apologizing
The meeting got rescheduled. And I couldn’t say anything
I still wanted to work with them, so I said, “It’s okay.” Smiling.

I cleared my schedule for the…

Yet many adults chose to disregard it

Today, I went to the optical clinic to have my eye checked. I did not write nor even open the Medium website/app since Saturday because I was suffering from severe headaches and a high fever. I also felt nauseated most of the time and become dizzy every time I stand up. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Astigmatism.

On our way home, I and my husband dropped by at the bakery to buy a few fresh pieces of bread for our kids. While my husband was paying for our bread, I noticed another customer looking at the bread display. He was…

Poetry about why a mother is strict

Candies, gummies, lollies, and chocolate
hotdogs, chips, junk snacks, and sweets.
All taste like rainbow yet, my kids don’t always get a bite.
Just a colorful imagination, think it’s a delight.

Pepsi or Coke, instead of fruit juices
I said, “Hey, first eat these egg sandwiches.”
“But Mom, our friends said colored drinks taste best!”
“Yes, I know. But it will make you go restless.”

Mom, can I go to Liam’s? I’ll be back by 6.
Okay, honey! Later help me get our dinner fixed.
Oh, wait! Turn on your phone’s location.
We’ll never know a sudden situation.

I even…

Vaccine roll out in the Philippines update

Photo by Hakan Nural on Unsplash

On the 9th of July 2021, I received my first dose of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine.

The whole process took about an hour. I and my husband arrived at the vaccination site at 11:00 AM. By the time we got there, we could hear a man making an announcement, “As of 11 o’clock today, Davao City has an additional 400 vaccinated individuals.” And everyone applauded.

Among my family, relatives, and acquaintances, many of them are reluctant to be inoculated. They have two reasons.

First, they do not trust the vaccine from China, the Sinovac, due to safety concerns. Initially, the…

Learn and laugh with me

I signed up on Medium in late February this year and started writing in March. It was introduced to me by Elvie Lins, a Top Writer in Photography.

Looking back, I totally had no idea.

Here is a list of what I did. And did NOT do.

  1. I only read an article or two every day.
  2. I followed only those who followed me. There were eight at first.
  3. I did not write at first.
  4. I did not care much about earning.
  5. I thought Medium is the same as starting a Youtube channel and if you are not creating unique content…

They may be your luckiest charm as well.

It is common to watch a witchcraft movie with cats alongside the witches. Yes, usually black cats.

At Halloween parties, feline-themed decors make them spooky.

Back in the middle ages, they were even worshipped like gods and goddesses. They were also worshipped by ancient Egyptians along with other animals. Egyptians were the first to believe that cats bring good luck to their owners.

Japanese people believe that having a feline friend while being a single woman attracts handsome suitors.

In China, cats are considered spiritual guardians. They consider cats as a symbol of good luck.

In the Philippines, many store…

Is there ever a right way?

Browsing on Goodreads, I stumbled upon this quote by Joy Marino:

“People raised on love see things differently than those raised on survival.”

Reading the quote made me think about which way I am raising my kids.

As a mother, I do believe that it is best to raise my boys on love. On the other hand, ever since I started my own family, my husband insists that raising our sons on survival is better.

It is indeed true that people raised on love see things differently than those on survival.

Love and survival are two different things that people…

And they are equally as happy as the adults with children.

Is life better without kids?

For many couples, one of the most exciting days of their lives is to meet their offspring.

However, in a recent study in the USA, it appears that opinions on having children are changing. In fact, the research shows that twenty-five percent of adults have no desire to become parents.

Psychologists of Michigan State University studied the characteristics and satisfaction of adults who do not want to have children and revealed that a quarter of American adults are satisfied to be child-free.

If toxic workplaces do not change their culture

Years before the pandemic, many business owners have already begun outsourcing their projects to remote workers. Thanks to technology, telecommuting has been made possible, and this article will unravel the causes why it is here to stay, even after the end of this pandemic.

Technology has made it plain-sailing for employees to work from home, and increasingly, there are independent contractors anywhere in the world today. Because of the advancement of telecommunications, people can carry out their tasks from the comfort of their homes, no matter which country they reside in.

Over the past year, telecommuting has become the new…

Almost ten years after my last childbirth.

It is hard for me to write this because I could not learn to believe that postpartum is a no-laughing matter.

I used to live in a society where postpartum was unreckoned to exist and that it is all in our minds.

That postpartum is only for the rich. That women who claim to suffer from it are just acting out or making excuses to grab attention from the people surrounding them.

Years ago, when I used to work in the office, there were days when I needed to be absent because of severe headaches. My then manager would suggest…
